Peter tells that we are a slave to whatever masters us.  The U.S. is the number one debtor nation in the world and the average Christian is as deeply in debt as his non-Christian counterpart.  This is an indication that we are not handling Kingdom resources as well as we should.  This not God's will for our lives.  How do we train ourselves in godliness and free ourselves from the prison of debt?

Of all the Christian graces (attributes of Christ), research indicates that this is the most illusive of them all.  By self-admission, this is the one that most of us struggle with the most.  We are more often like the proverbial "bull in the china shop."  What difference would it make if husbands would choose "gentleness" over chauvinism and bullying?  What difference would it make if wives would choose "gentleness" over badgering and nagging?

If you are Christian – a redeemed Child of God – it is God’s will that you grow in patience.  It is expected of you.  Guess what that means?  Your patience will be tried whether you pray for patience or not.  So, why is patience important?  How do I tap into the hidden strength of patience?

Humility is a very noble characteristic to possess and has become increasingly rare in our current culture. When someone lacks humility it can be painfully obvious but defining it can be trickier. So, what is humility, and how can we cultivate it in our own lives? Let's all enjoy a nice helping of humble pie.

The world is a desperate place with many giving in to despair.  People simply can't live without hope.  Is your hope an anchor that will hold in the worst of times and till the end of time, or is your hope temporal and merely wishful thinking.  The Hope of every Christian is an anchor for the soul which will hold for all eternity.

Self-control. We all probably cringe a little at the thought of discussing this topic. We are reminded of how much we lack self-control in so many areas of our lives. Even people with no connection to church see the value in possessing this characteristic. So, why it is so difficult to master, where have we gone wrong in respect to self-control and how can we allow God to produce it in our lives?

Once we learn to  THINK like Jesus and ACT like Jesus, an amazing thing happens--we actually begin to BE like Jesus.  The fruit of the Spirit begins to shape who we are actually becoming.  LOVE is the starting point and we will know we are actually making progress when we find ourselves loving difficult people.

Following the feeding of the five-thousand, the disciples are about to encounter their first real test of faith where Jesus is not visibly present with them.  Overwhelming fear turns to courage (in regard to Peter); courage returns to fear then to  profound awe, wonder and worship.  How will we handle the storms of life that will inevitably come; when we don't sense the presence of Christ?  How will we handle Jesus' invitation to do what seems impossible?  Will we have the courage to step out of the boat?  Will we keep our focus on Jesus or our surrounding circumstances?  Will we walk on water or will we sink in despair?

Jesus most often taught using parables, which are for more than a clever allegories with a moral.  They were not mere illustrations but contained the very heart and meat of His message.  That message would reveal truth to some and conceal it from others.

In this particular parable, the "kingdom fruitfulness" of a life was dependent upon the heart of each individual.

Much of Jesus' ministry years was marked by what we would consider interruptions, as in the time he healed the woman with an issue of blood as he was on His way to heal a dying girl.  But in reality, most of Jesus' miracles were "interruptions."  But what are interruptions to us are divine opportunities for Jesus.  We need to leave room for the unexpected and see that some "interruptions" are really God's plan for us to serve others in Jesus name.

Studies have shown time and time again, that the vast majority of people who come to faith in Christ, do so because of the influence and testimony of a close friend or family member, not the local preacher.  This may be why Jesus refused to let the man healed of a legion of demons to follow Him.  Rather, He told the man, "Go back to your home and tell how much God has done for you."
Jesus expects the same from each of us.  Never underestimate the power of your testimony in bringing another person to faith in Christ.

Time is one of God's greatest gifts to us.  Time is a fleeting, non-replenishable resource for each of us.  It comes to us at the same rate of time.  We can't buy more of it, we can't borrow it and we can't give it away to another.  Since time is so fleeting we would be wise to "make the most of every opportunity" as it relates to eternity.  So, just how do we go about doing that?

Anything worth building must be put on an appropriate foundation.  The same is true with our lives.  Our core beliefs, which we addressed in our recent message series Think Like Jesus, are the foundation stones we are to build on.  But that foundation is worthless unless we, indeed, build upon it.  Our ultimate aim is to BE like Jesus.  Our next step in becoming like Him is to ACT like Him.  This begins with Worship--our active response to God, whereby we declare His supreme worth

For too long the Church has trusted in the signboard our front, the open door, and the Yellow Pages ad to bring people TO church.  While these may be helpful, the Scripture is clear that we are to be a going, inviting people.

Most of us have had the privilege of being blessed by someone who is generous.  They give freely, abundantly, and without reservation.  They even do it with a smile on their face.  Most people admire a generous-heart person, so why is it that their are not more people like them?  How can we cultivate generosity in our own lives?

Every Christian was born again to be transformed into the image Jesus.  He is the only one we should aspire to be like.  God has given us His Spirit for this very purpose.  One of the best ways that likeness can be seen by others is when will say "I will" to living a life that selflessly serves others in Jesus' name.

It is an admirable and Christ-honoring to be childlike.  It is quite another thing to be "childish".  It should be the glory of God and of Jesus that should motivate everything we do in our communal gatherings of worship.   We must learn what it means to "worship in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23-24).  We must rediscover the importance and power of the gathered Body of Christ in worship.

No one is an island.  No individual is the body of Christ.  Jesus is not a bodiless head.  If you are in Christ the Church is important to you.  If you see the Church as of no significance for your life you are disconnected from the head.  We must determine to stay connected to Jesus and to one another if we are to fulfill the mission given us by Jesus.

David Vaughan, of Whitewater Crossing Christian Church brings a stirring challenge.  Jesus once healed a lame man after asking him the question, "Do you want to get well?"  The answer to that question would seem to be obvious, but is it . . . really?  Certain things, out of necessity, would have to change.  The same is true with us.  We may not be physically ill or impaired, but each of us has a measure of spiritual ills that needs healing.  Jesus asks us the same question:  "Do you want to get well?  Are you sure?
